I personally enjoy fish legends and was wondering if anyone had some to share. (They don't have to be strictly true.)
Here are some I know.
The neon tetra was brought to Europe before the USA; and the first time someone tried to bring some over, they failed because the ship they chose to bring them over on was the LZ129 Hindenburg.
400lb blue catfish in the Mississippi.
There are 10ft man eating snakeheads.
A fully grown arapaima has bulletproof skin.
If an arapaima is hit by a boat, it goes crazy, and if it accidentally hits a man as it jumps around, he will die as if struck by a car.
If you catch a big wels, it will attack you, and they have swallowed anglers whole, or ripped them to pieces (depends on the story).
If a pet aro dies, it means someone in the family was supposed to die, and the arowana died in his/her place.
A black fish sucks bad luck out of a whole house and into itself.
Blue Whale Catfish are meaner and wilder than piranha.
The people who live in the amazon will not get out of their boats in places where Hoplias Aimara is known to exist, out of fear of having legs bitten off.

Central mudminnows can survive temps below freezing, above 100° F, in stagnant water with virtually no oxygen, and in dried up mud! Probably the worlds toughest fish!! Make great aquarium fish as well...I currently have 4 of them.

The tench (Tinca Tinca) has a thick layer of slime on it's body which, in the past, was said to cure headache among various other ailments. Today many aquacultures and some koi keepers have one in their pond to prevent fungus.
