Cool! Is Laotian very similar to Thai?

Yep...which is why I can understand and speak most of Thai.

C Chub_by , you are digging up old obsessions. After reading some of those links, I want to go back to trying to be a 'polygot' again (Although now I have a word for it).

moet je afrikaans in de school leren? (I believe Afrikaans and Dutch are almost the same so just put that hoping you'd understand ;) )

Haha, that was exactly what I was hoping for in this thread!

Just to add some spice and controversy: Here is a video by the probably best language channel on YouTube on the topic of Anglophones (i.e english speakers) not wanting to learn languages! Do you guys agree? What, aside from the widespread use of English, could be the reason?

Moet jy Afrikaans leer? ;)

Yes we do it at school, I take it as my additional language :)

That's pretty cool. Are there any other languages to choose from?
At my school no, but there are 11 official languages in the country. Some schools also do French or German too :)

Fluent in English, and some Spanish, enough where I could manage in a Spanish speaking country.

My new job gives huge discounts on those digital language classes such as Rosetta Stone. I was thinking about trying a new one but not sure yet haha

That's so cool, I'm jealous man. What do you work as if you don't mind me asking? I've yet to try those classes, though I probably will sometime in the future.
