Greetings,

First - I live in Clearwater Florida and am not new to keeping tropical outside. Having said that, I wanted to share my new patio set up with you.

The tank is a 210 gallon Aqueon dual mega overflow with a home made 40 gallon breeder sump. Don't worry - I will have plenty of heat and a Aqua Logic Cyclone chiiler that is more than adequate in the sump for temperature control.

I built the frame using a design for a 210 from reef central. Here are some pics:

The tanks and frame 210 on top - 40 as sump:

Put the media in the sump and started to fill......to do a leak check before I close in the frame.

Now time to enclose and insulated the frame. 3/4" plywood, and insulation, and on the sides composite house siding. The front - 3/4" plywood, concrete backer board and a product called air stones.

Now it needs the trim painted.....

And finally: Tah duh!! DONE!

The result: HAPPY OSCARS!!!

Nice job! Very attractive tank and great job on the trim. Stupid question, but why is it outside? Looks like a show tank for a living room. Planning to add more tanks?

That is an awesome job. I have always wanted to keep fish outside year round, but it gets cold in the winter here.
That setup looks amazing.

Hell yah dude beautiful tank I love your set up are you running k1 in the first compartment?

Very nice setup you have there. I am jealous of being able to keep tropicals outside- if it did not get so damn cold in NJ I would have a cichlid pond 100%.

That patio where the tank is right outside a 12 ft glass sliding door where my entertainment room is. It is fully visible from inside. My house very nice but is smallish - ~1500 square feet and having a tank that size inside causes issues. My wife has a nose like a blood hound and does not like the smell. I had a 125 in the house and she did not like it.

Those Oscars were grown out in my pond by the front door. It is about 500 gallons. Those Oscars are about 12 inches long.

My pond:

yep - the water through the filter socks and an airstone make them swirl real nice but not too fast. They are AWESOME for biological filtration. I call it the bio reactor section of the sump. lol
