Well that synspilum wasn't playing around.
My buttikoferi was only 4 inches when she started to take over the 125. First my convict took a beating...then my female Texas and soon after my male Texas. Even defending eggs they couldn't stop her. Eventually all 6 feet of the tank was hers.

What size is your tank?

My old 14" button lived peacefully in my 300g. ( Apart from the odd battle through the ranks) from 6" until he finally became boss, when the tables turned he killed two 13" Midas in two days, suspected ram attacks that are spoke off.
Great fish apart from that, personality of an Oscar and feeding habits of a giant gourami.

Did he kill them to move up the ranks or just out of pure aggression?

My friends old one was huge. Still have the scar trying from helping catch it. They pack a nasty bite

To be boss, he was fine with smaller fish, I have some old videos on my YouTube channel if anyone's interested, my channel is 'justin mfk'
Some videos of the two battles it had with a festae to move up, they weren't always fighting like that tho, it was just a rank thing, I would have split them if it was constant.... Really shows their power tho.

If you had to pick a male buttikoferi or male festae in a fight who would u pick

Could go either way, butti will outgrow and win eventually as festae take a while to get big.
I wouldn't recommend anyone mixing them in anything smaller than 600g.
