Beautiful - thanks for sharingHere is a female I used to have, she was about 8-9" and built like a damn tank
I kept her in a 6' tank with a few similarly-sized cichlids. She was pretty chilled out, wasn't dominant and didn't start any problems.

Have you noticed any improvement or degradation in the males color since removing the female? I think she may be the prettiest female Chancho I have ever seen! I was going to get a 6x2 footprint tank for my eventual pair - would you go bigger, or do you think that would work fine?No I sold the female. I was fed with all the spawning and fighting and having to have a divider in the tank.
Older pics with the female.

He used to darken with some barring when breeding, also he would lose a few scales and have some split fins, especially when the fry became free swimming. The female would try to keep him away from the fry.Have you noticed any improvement or degradation in the males color since removing the female? Update pic - still growing, but not too fast... I'm loving the olive and yellow colors. A 6x2 footprint will be good for your chanchos but I wouldn't say if they will get on or not. Some individuals will fall out no matter what. Good luck with them and keep posting update pics.
