I recently set up the K1 filter again and running it is really loud like having a Boeing 747 in my bedroom 24/7..
The air pump itself isn't too noisy but the K1 banging against one another + bubbling on the surface is really driving me crazy..
The K1 chamber is 9"(L) x 6"(W) x 18"(H) with 1kg of K1 media churned by four 2" ball airstones and powered by a 15LPM air pump..
Any ideas on how to reduce the noise?
I plan to use a styrofoam to cover the K1 chamber.. Would that work?

Is the stand boxed in? I'd suggest that if not. My sump with 150l of k1 bubbling away is almost silent when I have the cupboard doors on.

Put a lid on it and box it in. If you don't want to box it in then insulate the glass with something dense to cut down on the noise. Other than that, k1 is always going to be a little noisy. I do tend to think it dampens a little with time as the k1 gets dirty, but maybe I just notice it less and less.

What do you guys mean by box in?
Sorry I'm new to this term..
The K1 chamber itself is part of the main tank, which is an internal side filter.. And my tank doesn't have a stand, it's just placed on the floor for easy maintenance (I'm handicapped)

DIFish DIFish , how to insulate the glass?

Boxing it in as inputting a cabinet around it, but seeing as it is part of your tank, this is not an option for you. By insulating it I mean to put something attached to the backside of the glass like styrofoam, cardboard, rubber sound mats on the parts of the glass that are exposed to air. your picture looks like you could put something on the back of the tank, but other than that you don't have many options. I would definitely try putting a lid on it or some plastic covering the top of the K1 section, that should help some.

+1 for a lid. That stopped a majority of the noise for me on my sump. Hardly even heard it
What material did you use for the lid?
Is yours tightly covered?
I need to make space for the airline tubings so if I put on a cover, there will be a little gap in between..
