I have a 3 inch Texas cichlid in my 37 gallon quarantine tank and wanted to add a 3 inch Wolf fish malabarcius. Anyone else have this combo? I had two silver hatchet fish in there but rhe texas cichlid ate both of them.

Wolf cichlid and mala are tow way different fish. Might wanna clarify. None of the fish should be in that small of a tank though. The wolf will likely grow faster than the texas. Wouldn't even advise that as a grow out. Unless it were a breeder styled tank. But you have a chance with a mala, the texas will likely start the fight, depending on your wolf (the specific specimen) it may finish the fight easily if it knows it's capable, or it'll run.

I guess I'm not sure what type it is but here's a pic. It died yesterday. Found a small hole where the filter met the lid and made it's way out by a nice jump.
I plan on getting a new one. So the Texas cichlid is about 3 inches and the wolf fish was about 4 inches. The 37 gallon was not big enough for a while? Is it because of their aggressive behavior? If so thanks for pointing this out.

I actually picked up another 125 today so they will grow out in there.

Thanks. Complete bummer and it's my mistake for not covering that area but had no clue wolf fish were escape artists. Was difficult to get it too.
Might wanna do a little research before buying in the future. That's a well known thing.

From the article's I've read and videos I've watched I didn't come across it. Everything focuses on it's predatory behavior, size, and feedings that I came across. When I bought a fire eel and bichir it was easily highlighted that these are escape artists. I hope my post will help folks.

I hear you. But wolves are known to be jumpy. And reading people's personal experiences is better than the articles usually. The article is trying to get viewed so can focus on certain things, there good for basic info. But you always want to search forums for people's personal experiences, you'll find things the articles don't say. I wouldn't call them escape artists per say, but they like to jump, I've had a wolf jump at the lid trying to get the droplets from the humidity. Feeding is simple for wolves you may have learned or maybe not. They're greedy fish, practically as easy to get on to pellets etc as cichlids. Size for malas is up in the air, could easily be due to the possibility of multiple species being under the name, but biggest "seen" was a little over 2'. Definitely would expect it to hit 20" in the long run. Predatory they can be, however it depends on the specimen, my curu came in very blood thirsty, after a year or so he wouldn't put his mouth on a fish for that reason, only for territorial purposes. Had a mala at a foot that could've easily ate his 4" convict tank mates that were in their prior to him but left them alone, introduced similar sized fish, he ate those. So any behavior, always comes down to the specific specimen.
