Any known visual tells for differentiating smaller afer and congoensis? Base color to pattern color was the only thing I could think of it possibly being. Just not 100% sure as too differences in smaller specimens.

From what I have heard P. congoensis do not grow as large and have a more marbled patterning with black markings as opposed to P. afer which have gold colored spots and markings.

thats one of the problems with knives different species can look very similar
True.I hope he can get actual congoensis as I wouldnt mind having one to compare with my afer.
 
Congoensis are said to be quite difficult and certainly don't like each other according to what I've read. If you keep one be prepared for some initial live feeding... Amiidae on predatory fish had some I think

I didn't realize you had an afer, is your afer an a-hole like mine?
Yep,had it for a few years now.It is over a foot in length and pretty much leaves the other fish alone.
 
I was thinking I may have gotten a small 4-5" one in a brown knife order. I'll post some pics today. But either way I'm a happy camper to have gotten one of the two haha I have.
