Hello, my first post. My background, I been raising fish since 1979. All types of African and the typical LSF South Americans varieties. Not to exotic except for Dovii and some asian fish years ago.

I bought two bristlenose plecos the other day and have them in my 10 gal quarantine tank. (2” long) If I buy one Texas cichlid, 1.5” long and add him to the same quarantine tank will he murder the plecos or will it be fine?

Maybe a tank partition?

Thank you!

I think at that size it should be fine. Especially as a temporary setup. If your worried about it partition it, it won’t hurt. But I would feel safe about it personally.

Depends on the Texas. My black Nasties destroyed 2 BNP’s at that same general size in a 75 gallon. In a 10 gallon it’s a gamble in my honest opinion. Literally depends on how aggressive that Texas is at that size

Thank you for the replies!

I never raised a Texas before so I don’t know how aggressive they can be when small. I’ll keep that option ready if need be.

Oh, yeah, 10 is really small regardless, and I agree with you.
I really want some black nasties someday, such amazing fish.
It’s definitely been a learning experience. This forum has kept me from wasting money. Mine didn’t die from the common bloat problems. Once my male hit about 2.5” he became belligerent. I had a 3” Male and 2.5” female pair up and spawn. He killed all of the fry and Mom out the blue. Now he’s going to live his life as a wet pet
