I have had a DAPMH40 for 2 years now running my k1 reactor. I preemptively re build it about two weeks ago with a jehmco kit. Overall it was running fine and was running quiet again. Two days ago I noticed the pump was getting loud ( about the same sound before rebuilding) it was also warm to the touch but it has always been warm to the touch. I opened it up and everything looked great. After closing it back up and turning the pump back on it was quiet again so I figured maybe the housing got loose and I fixed it by tightening it. Today I noticed no flow to my k1 reactor. I opened it up and it was all burnt out. Honestly i grateful there was no fire. I sent an e-mail to jehmco to order a new air pump and get their take but anyone here have any insight? Really don't want to have this happen again for my family and fish safety sake. pictures to follow

I'm not sure what it looked like before, so not sure where you're thinking it burned? The plastic on one of the magnets looks like it overheated a bit, maybe.

I'm thinking the replacement diaphragm was stiffer than the old one, increased the load and heating on one of the magnets.

There is literal ash all around it and burnt marks on the motors

The only things that come to mind are back pressure or if the filter was plugged as both of those create heat for the pump.

Any power surges in your area?

I'm glad that nothing else caught on fire. Keep us posted on updates.

its on a very large sump so nothing clogged and airstones seemed to be bubbling well
no surge that I know of. the rest of the fish room. The air pump is plugged into a battery backup surge protector and the rest of the equipment sharing the strip are fine.

Charney Charney did you hear back from Jehmco at all? Really curious because I have the DAPMH20 currently sitting idle but was planning on using for a large hmf and purchasing a second one. Not sure if this is just a freak accident or what.

think when I rebuilt it I did not tighten one of the nuts enough. One of the dighragms was destroyed with all the metal pieces missing and shredded. I just got a DAPHM60 from them that I need to setup. I will send back my 40 to see if they can fix it.
