2,000 gallon set up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a salt set up of around 2000g in total and I used a setup simular to vldesigns. It heated the water very efficiently. You do need to note the same issues vldesign had, make sure your pump is stainless or brass and you need a good quality check valve. I noticed no adverse effects to my hotwater heaters life and with the money saved in electrical charges I could have purchased 4 or 5 more hotwater heaters. I controlled my pump with my reefkeeper you do need to acount for some temp creep, as the hot water in the coil will continue to release its heat while in the coil. My creep was about 4 degrees f that was a little hard to figure out at the time but it worked out ok after a little trial and error nothing bad just not optimal temps. Obviously if you don't have natural gas to heat your hotwater this isn't going to save you money.

Thanks for all the great info. It's very much appreciated. I checked out vldesigns and read the issues he had. This might be a stupid question but i was more concerned with not having any plumbing exposed. Can I use radiant heating and not have to worry about breaking the concrete foundation? I didn't want to have anything running across my floor. Thanks again for everyones input.

As far as whats going in it...I'm going to stay true to being on MFKers lol. Definitely freshwater..I'm not 100% what just yet tho.

I'm going to have to say I'm not 100% sure on this question, if I understand it, or exactly what is the question.
In my basement the pipes run across the ceiling of the basement so I just continued that design and also I didn't want anything on the floor either. So I tapped into a hot water pipe and put the pump n line there and then ran some pex across the ceiling to the 100' roll in the sump. I ran another length of pex back across the ceiling and into the hotwater heater via a "t" fitting installed on the drain valve for the hotwater heater. So I didn't have to do anything with the cement in my basement. Obviously my basement isn't finished but if it were or if I was going to most of the pipes would have been hidden by a drop ceiling which would have been easy enough to remove tiles to get to plumbing and then cover back up. Hope that helps you.

Ok thank you it does help. The basement will be finished so I was thinking that I might have to plumb underneath the concrete foundation to bring the pipes up into sump. I didn't consider running them along the ceiling. Thank you though..im open to all suggestions on using gas and making the setup look nice.
