I was going through some old files and found this image of one of my "rock star" fish...a P. managuense that I called Jumbo. The file was shot in RAW and never processed. If you google "jumbo cichlid" he's the first five photos on the image page. I started taking photos of him well over thirty years ago...back in the early digital days. This was also when fewer people were posting fish photos. I've received more emails and messages from all over the world on this fish than anything else I've ever kept.

The father was a wild caught managuense from Nicaragua...the mother was a gold morph managuense. It was easy to see that he was the largest fish in the brood...and thus, named Jumbo. Hands down, the most aggressive, interactive and fish model I've ever owned. The photo shows the awesome colors and fins. What it doesn't show is the attitude. I've only been bitten two or three times by large cichlids. All of them by Jumbo. I always had to distract him on one side of the tank to stick my hand in the other. Once, while reaching across the open tank, he leaped out of the water and bit me behind my arm on my tricep. He lived for thirteen years. Awesome animal.

I miss Jumbo

Recently seen this fish or I think it's this fish in an aquarium magazine. Also included some of your other photos

Very cool. Especially the fact that you had him for 13 years!
