Branch, W. R. (1976). "Two exceptional food records for the African bullfrog, Pyxicephalus adspersus (Amphibia, Anura, Pyxicephalidae)". Journal of Herpetology. 10 (3): 266–268. doi:10.2307/1562997. JSTOR 1562997. To be honest this frog must have been way exceptional considering that snake species is thick and fiesty and also is a frog/toad specialist. Thing about african bulls is their bite really hurts other frogs like the rena sepcies do not seem to have jaw power. They all have extreme high pain tolerence which is why they swallow things that bite them.

How much do frogs eat? I was interested in getting one, but I kinda don't want to pay the expense of buying tons of live feeders. Also, I've heard that pacman frogs have the reputation of being extremely, extremely, extremely boring.

Jumpy or skittish American bullfrogs are generally wild caught adults, well aclimated na bullfrogs are hard to freak out,but yes they need more room,as for tokays or snakes killing your Africans remember just cuz it happens in the wild doesn't mean it's a good idea (ball pythons eat a lot of rodents in the wild for example ,yet many balls get killed by unattended rodents in captivity) I am also well aware of both tokay and af. Bullfrog bites (seen a guy get fanged by the protrubranch of many frogs) there's actually a guy who lost about a inch of his finger to a captive tokay, and remember that even seemingly minor injuries can prove fatal, juvy American bullfrogs if properly sourced and quarantined would probably be a good food,as would young leopard frogs

Depends on the species, for a beginner frog how about u get some NORTHERN (not southern as they r skittish) leopard frogs in a 40 gal paladarium, I fed my adult every other day things like a mixed diet of crickets, baby 3/4 inch sunfish, fresh shed baby crawfish etc just keep the lid on lol

african bullfrogs will eat you out of a house

the pacmans craweli sp, ornata arent as voracious they dont get as big

like my bull can gobble down a group of anoles in one feeding and hes a baby six inch six month old

my macaw has the hardest bite of all my pets but i know my toucan can kill her so can a raven by using agility, a lot of animals can hurt us but their defenses fail miserably to others. I saw a tokay bite the crap out of a small bullfrog species but it still got eaten, ive seen moray eels lacerate snakes and had no effect. Snakes in captivity go threw a dormant stage they do in the wild also where they are very lethargic then things start to eat the snake alive. LIke a large rock python got eaten alive by vultures. Bullfrogs african are always on guard and ready for action. I have ball python and king snake as well.

I agree tho i dont wanna put something in there that can hurt my bull, i wont even feed live mice or rats not even pinky.Frog is too special to me. I breed roaches and crayfish for them. I dont feed my snakes live either. I have a bengal cat who is 25 percent leopard cat f4, who likes eating mice rats etc.. Is my only pet that i would not worry about feeding live to but i still dont like it and wont do it, i cant take the scream of another animal.

For a first time pet id avoid ranids if you want something fun pacman, or even african clawed frogs. Cane toads, etc... Just personal pref, ranids live in my outdoor pond. Fun pacmans are fun to grow but thats about it lol they are cute also. None are suppose to be handled tho.

pacman frogs are boring most frogs to be honest are very boring lol if you want a interactive pet get a beardie, or ball python, frogs are just display animals. The budgetts and african clawed are fun to watch swim. Ball python would be the easiest of all just make sure its eating frozen thawed. Aqatic frogs will eat anything pellets worms so are easier to feed. Yeah it is a pain feeding a 3 pound frog. Out of all frogs ive had the african bull is most engaging because soon as he sees me he will sneak and hide knowing that i am going to drop food in his tank. The male also guards his tadpoles. THey seem like the smartest frogs. Put a pool for him he jumps in and sinks streaches his body lol

So which ranidae do you have in your pond? (I would like to hear more about the snake and moray,as the only time I've known them to meet r when seasnakes kill and eat morays)

Miss my pixie. No joke: the reason I got one is a pet shop had one back in late 80’s. It ripped a girls hand to shreds and took part of her finger!! I bought a baby from them right there and then. I didn’t know any better back then and fed it everything under the sun. His last meal was a bullfrog his same size. It must of had parasites, cause he pooped it out and never ate again.
Those teeth are no joke. Bait shop used to have those glow in the dark, dye injected night crawlers. Took a month to get that out of the tank!
Damnit, now I might have to get another one, thanks.
