280. The beginning of my return!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you. The swords will add much needed cover for now before they move into the bigger tank. I’ll replace with jungle val or smaller red melon swords.

Here’s a video I took. Just zoning out on this tank.

Have you ever placed swords under heavy rocks? Would they still be able to root feed? I have a geo pen and I love the look this brings. Well done sir

You wouldn’t want to place the roots under rocks but you will use rocks to wedge them in. When wedging with rocks, I use big rocks to create a triangular area to plant in and then I use small stones to cover th roots over th gravel so that geos and rays can’t expose the roots. I also use thin small wood pieces to lock the roots in. Was planning on taking pics and setting that up sometime soon. I’ll take detailed pics so you can see what I mean.

Maybe I missed it, but what kind of lights are you using and do you need to supplement your dosing for these amazon swords? Recommend any substrate?

I wanted to do a low tech planted for my 535g but gave up on the idea. I really dont want to be doing gravel cleaning in such a large tank and many folks told me that its a myth you dont need to gravel clean when you have plants.

I’m using four 48” finnex LED bars in a staggered setup. It gives me a low-moderate light intensity given the 24” depth. It works for swordsbin a low tech tank. I placed 4-5 root tabs under the roots of each plant. No other dosing is necessary unless I see some yellowing in the leaves. Then I’ll add K. I should have enough N and P from the livestock.

You’ll have to gravel vac the sand no matter what but you’ll ease up around the roots.

I’m using three aquaticlife halo pendant LEDs on the 535. The higher jnesitu is for the 30” height.

The substrate is PFS mixed with various natural gravel grades. I used to use laterite under the sand or special plant specific gravel in my planted tanks. Not needed for basic swords. They will do much better with a nutrient rich substrate.
