revitalizing an old filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Presently I have multiple old filters working on my tank, eventually when Godzilla gets bigger and is moved to a larger tank I'll get an adequate canister filter. In mean time the sum of what I have is covering things pretty well, though recently my Marineland Emperor 200's spray bar to its water wheel clogged. I already had API Biochem Stars in a clam shell insert in that filter so I removed the spray bar entirely and plugged it so all the water would route through the polycotton, bistars and then through the wheel. Low and behold it turns the wheel anyway so guess my 20 year old Emperor still maintains purpose in my tank.

Who exactly Is Godzilla but anyways for my 220 gallon tank I have a sunsun 304b which gives me 525gpu it works GREAT (budget ehiem) gives me about 323gph when I ran my bucket test with media and Rena filstar large that does 350gph its like 8 years old and finally a aqua clear 50 that does 200 gallon I find this sufficient in my tank

what I would do is get a Sunsun 404b filter for every 150-gallon which is what I would recommend is a reasonable amount of water flow per hour and media amount remember its not just about water flow but the amount of media too. ANd In my opinion, fluval filters do not work their price tag. Ive never had problems with my sunsuns and there 3 years old now

I've been looking into Sunsuns which I don't think existed the last time I bought a canister filter. I've never liked fluval filters, Marineland has proven themselves to me.
