Fish Hobby Worst Nightmare

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would just get a piece of glass and brace it like my 220 was braced in the pictures above. That is going to be your easiest, and strongest option.

That’s how I fix glass tanks too. I trust it over the plastic braces. It’s nice to have somewhere to set wet crap while messing with a tank too.

Acrylic ftw.... Like stated at least it didn't break the tank and I'd brace it with glass as well

First thing I do when I get up every morning is to check on the aquariums/fish, a lot can happen in a few hours. As I came to the third tank I seen the lids that appeared to have fell inside, I thought maybe the big cichlids got a little rowdy over night. I look on top and there is was, both braces broke off. I looked down the length on the tank and it's not really bowing, no leaks anywhere. I then drained it to take the pressure off, now looking for a 220 brace.

That sucks man. How hot does that light get?

I had the same thing happen to my 150. There is a company that custom makes metal braces that they powder coat. If you are interested drop me a line and I will forward their info.
Manufactures no longer sell the entire plastic frame that goes around the entire top. I called. Lol

Ahhh, a broken brace? Annoying...

I once woke up to my reef tank full of what looked like milk. An anemone grenaded overnight and fouled everything, everything died except for 2 fish.

My oldest kid's betta died while we were away on vacation, had someone feeding the tanks while we were gone. When we got back the water was literally black.

Or, the time when i killed an entire tank by misreading a label and overdosing excel. Never using that stuff again. I stll feel horrible about it to this day.

I wonder what colour is next on the list... Lol

Luckily i have never wiped out a whole tank ,
but I do the same,
check on my tanks first thing every morning and last thing of a night (and many time in between)

Unfortunately I had just purchased the tank used on Craigslist. Filled up the tank, conditioned the water, rehomed the fish when I noticed the brace. Was not a happy fish keeper having to set up the old tank and drain this one.

i had same issue also with my 150....i had a friend weld a custom brace to place across the top also..made out of 1/8" stainless steel...its under my canopy and hidden...old plastic brace broke bc the previous owner had some really heavy t5 lights just sitting on top of the tank...
