Cichlid and BGK tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Would the GTs be able to live with a BGK? I could get the GTs at around 2" while the BGK is at 10"?

yes but you can expect the bgk to be on the secretive side with a large gt lurking about. possibly be a lot of stress on them if you happen to get a super aggro gt.

ive seen tanks with big bgk that are really personable and active but they only kept smaller less aggressive fish with them. i think an ideal bgk setup would be in a 6' tank with a large school of tetras and a few angelfish, maybe an assortment if dwarf cichlids.

So I could try
The GTs and the BGK together?
Alright I understand that if the GTs get to agreesive with the BGK I would have to sell the BGK.
Alright what would go with them? Would a couple of pearl Cichlids work? And to what length do the parents care for the fry till? Like would I have to remove the fry at a certain time? Cause I have a lfs that says they will by the GT babies when they are at 2"

If you are referring to geophagus brazilliensis, I would not attempt them, they are really very aggressive. Meanest geophagus by far, more like a red devil in terms of personality. I wouldn't try other cichlids with the breeding pair of GT's, I would stick with noncichlids.

Ok,
Could I do:
The BGK and clown Loaches.
1 M Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid
3 F Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid
And then a bunch of angelfish?
How many angelfish could I have?

i like this idea the most out of all your propositions so far. i would go with 4-6 angels+ big school of tetras instead of a whole bunch of angels though.

that would be a nice nice 150 i hope you go with that.

So what if I did 6 angelfish
And one Denison Barb
7 Congo Tetras
7 yellow banded Tetra
(All with the BGK and c Loaches)
Maybe later I will add something else if it is going to be empty looking

Like this scenario best so far as these should all be compatible, u could also add a few panda loaches

Ya I decided that the GT is to aggressive
Sometime in the future I plan on having them in a 55 (just the 2 of them)

Also I think I decided on a stocking for the 150...

BGK x1
Clown Loaches x5
Hi-Fin Pleco x1
Angelfish x6
Denison Barb x1
Congo Tetra x7
Yellow-Banded Tetra x7
M Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid x1
F Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid x3
And then I have space for more fish but I will wait for these to settle in first.
What do you guys think?
And I will defiantly some time in my life have a pair of breeding GTs but not right now :(
