I have a single 2 inch flowerhorn in my 55 gallon tank. I got it two days ago. Ever since I put it in the tank it seems to be hiding behind some artificial plants and does not come out to eat. What do you suggest I do to encourage it to come out and swim and also while it is hiding should I feed it or just wait until it is in the open?

Wait it out and let it settle into the tank. It’s a new environment and will eventually eat as long as ur water parameters are in check.

Also once it puts on some size it’ll be much bolder. It’s just a waiting game for now.

Give it a day or 2 and then try again.

IU've set up the tank with lots of hiding places, fake plants, sponge filters, rocks, etc. Should I eli, imate some of tyhem?
Keep it. It’s better with it than without.

Agreed, he's 2" in a 4' tank by himself, the world seems very big to him. It can take over a month for a fish to really get used to a tank in my experience. I wouldn't try to feed him for a couple more days, don't want uneaten food making a mess, and he will be fine without food. Also, some dither fish would probably help him feel comfortable. This would be some danios or tetras that swim in the upper part of the tank. They may eventually be eaten by the FH, but maybe not if they are fast enough, and in the meantime they would help him feel at home.

Also- do you know about the nitrogen cycle? Is the cycle completed (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 1-20ppm nitrate) ? If the water parameters are not in check he will probably be stressed and not come out.
