Should start a breeding group of melanistic redfins,or even selective breed them to have black bodies and red fins.
The diminutive population is my first choice but while a local scientist found them many years ago, he is now gone, I am having problems finding them. I hope to get back to looking this summer..
Well I've found that dwarfism is generally in areas: 1 with out abundant large predators.
2 usually occurs in smaller habitats.
Keep us updated and don't give up!
I believe somewhere I read that the color morphs tend to selectively breed within the color morphs. As in silvers prefer to breed with other silvers vs cross back with a pure specimen.
We have lots of tiny ponds throughout the area, they are natural and most didn't have fish until gambusia were put in the ponds to control mosquito larvae. Some of them, a very few, were stocked with other fish like redfin pickerels.
These ponds are often smaller than a living room in your house...
The key is figure out which ones were stocked with something else. Most of the other fish are either least killifish, black banded sunfish, or most often flier sunfish...
