Unusual fungus/bacterial wiping out tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Could be columnaris. Looks like fungus and kills quickly. Cont with MB baths or hydrogen peroxide swabs. Would add kanamycin (watch ur pH) and furan. Keep ur your temps around 78-80 degrees. Add salt 1tsp per gallon.

My suggestion.
That's the one I looked at, also heard we can catch it. What was bad news for me, as I've hand my googles on and got in with the fish to check them over, two weeks back now, also read it woild have wiped the stock out within 48hrs.

Something I need to do tommorow morning, get back in with them and check them, I need to check under the fishes belly. Make sure there's no hidden marks.

I have MB arrive Tuesday. I will have to bath them all then.

That's one of the best looking megas I've ever seen.
The male doesn't have a patch on the big female, I'm worried for her mostly. Would take so long to get one to her size again. She's 12 now and 27"+

Outstanding.

Just been down to check on the fish. It's 3:30am here (uk)

Fish are doing well. Very active now. Looking better. Although I set the heaters to 31c (off someone's advice)
The water is currently holding at 32.2c in the fish room.

Obviously there plenty of surface movement. I've raised all filters/ power heads/ wave makers out the water, plus the several bubble pumps.

Fish are breathing fine and look a lot better. Very active. One thing I have noticed, is that one of the big nigers has just scratched his self along the bottom. As they would do with ich, although, even in the past with white spot outbreaks, I've never seen the big guy do this before in the years I've owned him.

Last week I did a 4 day esha exit treatment. I did have to water change in between. Hence the extra day. I might add

Fish seem to be slowly getting better I think.

The mega stopping mostly on the bottom. Comes up occasionally like he's taking air. Although, all others are breathing fine.
I did notice. His mouth is red, I'm guessing that the bacteria.

The Arowana back is starting to look better. The high temp seems to be helping what ever the issue is, hoping it will kill the cycle quicker.

I have two days left of this treatment. I might have to do a water change which is my only issue, as there's a small reading of ammonia in the pond.
I will double check, as the API test kit can be funny at times.

Then I need to worm them. As the big Niger seems to be clattering her gills, in almost a "chomping" motion. she's been doing it for a few weeks now from time to time. As I've been treating I haven't been able to worm them.
I think possible Gill fluke.

I have some MB arriving tommorow offline as I couldn't find any in the shops. So I will give the worse fish, a quick bath in it. Ideally, I don't want to wrestle the big Niger out to bath her, as she's a bloody brute and not the best to handle. Most fish are acting normal and and look fine. Just the megs and the black Arowana that have issues.

Seem to identified the issue as columnaris.

What a night it's been. I've had fish haemorrhaging on me, tried to bath the worst fish.

Only thing I know to kill it is a 1% salt dosage. which will mostlikely irritate the cats like mad.
Anyone know how long I need to leave the salt in for? I can't find that information

Right, I've managed to stop the hemorrhaging. By chance the missus is a vet. So I'll have some metro here this evening to deal with those fish.

I've upped the salt to 1% to kill the bacteria.

I'll also be treating with acriflavine.

I'll carry the last day treatment of myxzine on, then big water change and turn the uv and add carbon on to removed any left over meds. Then I'll treat with acriflavine.

See how this goes.

This really doesn't sound like Columnaris.

Metro? Metronidazole? For an aerobic bacterial infection?
