I took the plunge...EBJD

So a bit of an update. Lots of things happening with the tank. My RH Tapajos spawned again, this time successfully. Around the same time I noticed my EBJD with some stringy poo, all the while still eating fine. I isolated the pair of RH Tapajos on the far side of the tank with their young and they seem to be doing well. The EBJD is on a round of medicated food. It's a very nice product from my local fish store. It's mysis and other natural frozen food treated with Prazi. It's slowly taking care of the parasite problem with the EBJD. My plan is to let the Tapajos pair finish with their young. Move the young to a separate 10 gallon tank. Reintroduce the pair back into the general population (they are quite aggressive). Then I will treat the tank as a whole with Prazi-Pro (on hand). Continue with the medicated food for another week or two and hopefully that will fix the issue.

The EBJD is growing nicely. At this point he is at the 3" maybe a hair more. I will have some pics soon.

FYI - Prazipro will only treat for flatworms, and/or flukes. If your EBJD is still eating I would highly recommend getting some NLS Hex-Shield, which contains Metronidazole, Magnesium Sulfate, and a mega dose of garlic.

interesting. I've been dusting the prazi food with metro powder as well. This is all really new and convenient stuff. I wish they had all this around 15-20 years ago when i first started. Much appreciated. I'll probably go pick some up.

Just wondering where do you buy the hex shield food? And does it expire?

You can order it online, if it's not available locally. All food will eventually expire, but most fish foods generally have a shelf life of 2-3 years from date of manufacture. Once opened and exposed to air, heat, humidity, and/or light, all bets are off. Some folks store their containers in the fridge, I simply keep mine in a dark, dry, cool location.

So the tank is back to normal. The RH Tapajos babies have been moved to the 10 gallon nursery tank. I think we ended up with 20-25 in the end. Very exciting for me. This is the first batch I have been able to get out of the main tank. Parents have been reintroduced. I digress...

Looks like I got the EBJD wormed. A run of Prazi infused food and now Metro dusted food did the trick. I'll continue with the metro food to be on the safe side. I'd love to add a UV to the tank but I'm having trouble finding one that is HOB and fits.

The EBJD is quite the character. He's extremely bold. Always front and center in the tank. He bothers absolutely none of the fish. He seems to be growing quick too.
