is it normal for my kissing gourami to chase and nip guppies tails? their tails have been split for a while and i thought it was my BGK who i’ve seen what i think was nipping but i never thought it would be the kissing gourami. what should i do in this scenario?

yeah pink gouramis aka kissing gouramis can be pretty aggressive as far as community fish go. their "kissing" behavior is actually a territorial display. how large is yours? when mine got up to around 8" he started eating guppy sized fish. i would recommend nothing but larger tetras, danios, barbs over 3" to keep with them.

im not sure how big but i’d say about 3” max. thank you for your helpful answer, i was given the complete wrong mix of fish from day one so it’s been a long road. i think i’m gonna find a smaller second fishtank to transfer the guppies into before anything tragic happens - hopefully the bgk and k gourami will get along.

yeah for some odd reason every pet store in the world labels blue, gold, and pink gouramis as "friendly community fish". i cant tell you the number of neons and danios ive lost to vicious gouramis but suffice to say its high...probably approaching $15 worth!!!(lol)

i cant be sure with the bgk. but the gourami is an open water roamer while the bgk is a nocturnal lower level lurker of nooks and crevices so they shouldnt bump heads too much. provided they have a decent sized tank (75 gal+) they may get along fine. good luck!
