Wels cat or wallago ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is of course a wallago, either leerii or micropogon.

Wallago are carried rather widely and regularly in the US. On the opposite, the only wels source I know of used to be Wesley Wong. It is impossible to buy a wels "by accident" - they are just not imported except by a special and specific order and now that they are federally banned, even the latter became impossible, except maybe for a research or government institution or a major Public Aquarium.

Which begs an interesting question: has anyone seen wels at a Public Aquarium? I have never seen them there.

No need whatsoever to feed it live. It's a Russian roulette and it will sicken it and kill it sooner or later. Young wallago will learn to take anything, best of all whole fish (cut if needed) and pellets too.

I wasn't going to but he was just a little skinny when I got him ..He was in with a chocolate cichlid and was a little beat on.. I definitely don't plan on feeding him live

Let the guy be whatever or whoever... No benefit in arguing while harm to both parties is likely. As for your ID needs, there are always nice folks at the MFK and PCF...
