hello ill be getting a used canister from a buddy of mine, he just told me ill need do get some new media for the benecial bacteria.
I thought about doing pot scrubbers the plastic kind since i have alot that i used to use in my sump before.

My question is can i use the pot scrubber as media in the canister? Has anybody did this before?

Can use either one. Pot scrubbies have much more surface area than standard ceramic rings.

An alternative would be to use lava rock. Get the job done and cheaper.

Currently i have a sump with lava rock and canisters with pond matrix.

I agree with kno4te kno4te
So how would i arrange the trays? It has 3 trays total, the bottom tray have blue pad and supposed to be bio balls, middle tray have some ceramic rings i believe, and the top tray have white pad and top of the white pad is supposed to have carbon which i will not use.
Can i used the pot scrubber instead of bio ball?
And for the top part can i use some more media like ceramic ring or more pot scrubber?

Provided water leaves from the bottom I would go:
Bottom tray: Coarse sponge then fine sponge
Tray 2 & 3: As much bio media as you can cram in there

Scrubbers can go in place of bio balls if you like. Not sure how they compare

As Hendre Hendre mentioned. Sponge on bottom and fill the rest with what u like or prefer.

Ive never used pot scrubbers so I cant comment on them. Ive only used ceramic rings or SeaChem Matrix and Pond Matrix. All that Ive heard is that the pot scrubbers work well and are inexpensive.
Thanks guy, ill do the pot scrubber in the bottom and see what i can have on the other two trays.
