I got shock tonight from a faulty heater. Luckily I didn’t not submerge my entire hand in the tank. Upon investigation I noticed my aqueon pro 150w heater busted open. I’ve always unplug my heater when doing a waterchange so there is no product abuse here. It’s to my surprise that this product didn’t work as promised. I won’t be buying anymore Aqueon plastic heaters.

I recalled the last manufacturer that made something similar to this design was Marineland which had to recall all their heaters.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I've read of a few instances of this happening but not as many as the Marineland Stealth. I believe they were made in the same factory hence their similarity. I had several Stealths that I exchanged for Aqueon Pros during the recall. I only use the Aqueon Pros to heat water change water outside the tank so I'm not that concerned about heater failures.

I like the eheims heaters lately but never had issues with my old aquaneon heaters. I have one that’s ten years old and still works.

I've used Fluval E for the past few years. I might try a titanium heater with a Ranco controller in the future.

I had one once, didn't have any issues, but it also wasn't in use very long. It's always a nice surprise to get shocked. I had that happen with my a pump in my salt water store tank once.

Every manufacturer has there horror stories when it comes to heater. Aqueon actually makes a pretty decent heater.

i saw a post on aquariacentral stating the same thing. I do see the similarity between the two heaters except Marineland Stealth do not auto turn off during a waterchange. If this is the case I rather go with aqueon glass heaters.

I've had this happen to one of my aqueon pros as well.
how old was your and what model wattage?

i used to like the old school eheim heaters with the single dial. It was way better than the dual dial knob on the new eheim. I had a bad batch of the new eheim failing on me so I went Aqueon. Now I got to find another el cheapo brand heater.

i have a fluval E 300w and so far it is working nice. I also read good things on the titanium heaters.

this is so true. I have yet to see a brand that make consistently reliable heaters. Now I just buy el cheapo heater then replace them every 5 years.

All heaters sold in the aquarium trade are low quality, made from low cost components. Which is exactly why I run a grounding probe and GFCI power bar on all of my tanks.
