Hey all,
I have a 360gallon (8x3x2). it has 150 gallon sump and 4 FX5s running. I wanted to know if i can do 3 BD rays, a marble motoro, a african arowana, and a silver arowana. They are all ranging from 6 - 10 inches. How long do I need o upgrade the tank? The plan is to make a outdoor aviary with a pond and put the fishes in there. Thank you.

I almost never say this but that’s a lot of filtration I think you’d be fine with just the 150g sump 4 fx-5 is a lot of electricity and extra. Do your sump right and it should be all you need maybe run a Ultima filter addition if you’re really worried. As far as the stock it’ll work for a while but 4 full grown ray in that tank will look very packed. I’d do 2 rays maybe 3 max but those bd gonna get huge

2-3 years I’m assuming

Yah its not overfiltration just ALOT of filtration almost unnecessary and beside not to mention having 4 FX-5 is extremely bulky and space consuming where a sump does 10x more filtration for less space.
Thanks. 2 - 3 years is an ideal time for me. If the pond option fails, whats the best size tank to keep these guys in?
I'd say 8x4.. 10x4.. obviously bigger the better but 4' seems the needed space. go the cheap route and buy a intex pool and breed away till you can fund a decent set up lol.

that intex pool idea is actually wonderful. any concerns on the fish making a hole?

I’ve no experience with them but that seems like a go-to for most of the rays and catfish guy here. Some use those blue Pentair tubs.

You really dont need four fx5s. I know people that have one fx6 on almost 1000 gallons. There is no such thing as over filtration because even if you have 50 fx5s you will only have as much bacteria as there is food available for them. Also intex pools leak a lot.
