Been watching Oliver stones untold history of the United States. Very interesting but I can't decide if there's truth to it or is he a biased "I hate the U.S " Hollywood b.s.

It's not really anit American just contrary to some of the history I familiar with.

I always remember FDR being a revered pres but wasn't aware Truman was so inept (according to the show) also didn't know Russia faught Japan. The show states that Japan surrendered more out of fear of Russia than our bombs.

It's pretty good though up to episode 3 atm

History is taught by the victors and there is always more than one view. If you talk about WW2 to an american they will tell you the US won the war for everyone. If you talk to a russian they will tell you Russia won the war for everyone, and I have heard a Brit argue the same.

I won't argue that Oliver Stone isnt left wing, but he definitely has a different perspective to history than what is commonly taught in schools here. I will saw that like all countries we have "propaganda" in our history because everyone likes to talk great about themselves :)

If he is left with wing it doesnt seem like he's far out ther like most of Hollywood.

My father-in-law and I have argued about the use of the A bomb several times. I always agued we were out of line dropping it on such a densely populated civilian area

Most of the US bombing raids specifically targeted civilians, do anything even remotely similar now and it'd be considered war crimes or genocide. Nuking a city was really just an extension of that.

I'm not Soo sure that's a fair assessment. My understanding is many military targets "hid" in civilian areas.

History is an interesting thing isn't it.

WW1 and WW2 were both insane and many of the Geneva convention protocols were setup because of them. Back then there was no concept of leave civilians alone. Berlin, London, and a lot of Europe had to complete rebuild.

And don’t kid yourself about civilian targets. When you’re dropping cluster bombs and everything else in the arsenal the entire vicinity gets screwed.

Japan was a special case, even civilians would build weapons of war in their houses for soldiers, bombers talked of how after they bombed houses they would see heavy artillery pieces and such sticking out of the wreckage

No kidding on that, I find that drone strikes tend to target almost anybody, not just targets, I also think the u.s doesn't use cluster bombs anymore.
