2 days ago I got a 5" nice L27 and put him (can't sexed it) into 38g tank.
I noticed he has different habits compared to my previous L191 that went into glass pond. He doesn't eat as much (no sunken belly or eyes though) and started breathing fast. So I changed water later night and put more oxygen so he looks OK now.
Last night I put cooked cucumber in the tank but he didn't touch it. Dunno about Hikari algae wafer also. Couldn't tell which poop was his either, only know it was smaller than L191 since I saw them in plastic bag that was used to transport him, because I have few Mollies living in the tank too (very lookalike). But he was clinging on woodlog so he might be OK I think.

Can anyone give me advice? Do L27 need any special caring/ foods to bring out even more gold color?

Thank you.

Any tips to bring out his color more? Like white tank wall or black, strong current, dim light, etc. Mine is bare tank with 2 woodlogs though.

Here is the pic btw. It was sold merely as L27. Can anyone identify? I think it’s L27a. Its stripes are much more yellow in real life. Very camera shy and still not taking Hikari pellet of cucumber.

OK, he's bulking up now after eating so much raw cucumber but not even touched Hikari pellet. Will try feeding him potato soon. BTW this guy is a baby L27d Jamanxim "Thunderline" with bright yellow stripes. Such sweet little fellas.

Good looking fish! Supposedly, zucchini is supposed to be more nutritious than cucumber. When I switched over, my plecos attacked it with the same vigor as the cucumber.
I have seen my dull eyed pleco munch on market shrimp after dark once in a while (that I put in for my hypan plecos).
The wood is good!
Can't wait for updates as he/she gets more comfortable!

Just give it time to settle in. You already have driftwood in with it just put the hikers algae wafers in right before lights out it will find it.

Just wondering. Is there a "preferred conditions" for a baby L27d Pleco? I mean all those factors to be the one to buy? Like it must have gold stripes/ unbroken tail stripe/ not shy/ etc. Or are they changing their looks after they've aged? The only thing I've noticed is that their tail will turn more black and got yellow dots on it.

I ask this because I've seen a baby L27d with stripes that are almost not bright yellow. Some has bigger black stripes. Some that's a little bit bigger even got unbroken tail stripes.

Anyone who has experience is willing to share these informations?

Hi buddy in my experience the care needs for a L27 have been almost identical to the L191/L190, they are pritty much considered to be the same fish just collected from different collection points, rivers in Brazil, rio tapajos, rio Tocantins, rio xingu, etc......, I'd give him at good few weeks to settle in to be honest and wouldn't worry unless you begin to see signs of sunken belly or eyes, god forbid, honestly buddy I've had Plecos in the past that have literally took almost 6 months to settle in and feed property, so at the moment I wouldn't worry if I were you, I'd just give him a bit time.

Do you mean preferred water conditions? If so I'd keep the PH in between 6.5 and 7.5, there not really temperature fussy to be honest I always keep mine at 27-28 degrees but I know people that keep them as low as 22-23 degrees but I find keeping them at higher temps keeps them eating well, I would not exceed 30 degrees if I were you though, I would also keep the water pritty soft inbetween DH2 and DH15 if possible but they are very adaptable over time to be honest, also make sure to keep your ammonia levels nice and low as all small Plecos do not like ammonia at all, as a rule I do 1 water change a week on all my tanks at least, but 2 water changes a week most of the time, as this controls ammonia level well I find.
