Extra Money, what to do with it?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I shouldn't be giving advice on doing something smart with money though...My boss submitted my name for an award which comes with a $500 voucher. If I get it my plan is to buy $1300 of bits for my PC. :p
your about 800 short there man. haha

To the OP, sounds like you are a young guy, correct? the money that you have now is pretty meaningless until you are paying your own rent and bills, and have an income. I'd blow it on whatever you think will be the most fun :)

20% down on a house is a good goal to have. I remember when I let my hobbies take over my life, and I almost lost sight of what was most important in life..

Man, I don't know how people manage to save up 20% of a mortgage. My house is paid off, no kids, both better than average jobs. And still, it would take yeaaars to save up $130K down payment for a cheap house. Trying to save that while paying $1500/month average rent, maybe younger with lower paying jobs, plus $1300/month average running cost per kid if you made that mistake...

I feel ya.. It took me almost ten years to save up that much for my house, and I probably could have done it sooner if I got my act together earlier in life. It sounds like your doing just fine in life, and I would say eff it and spoil yourself if the better half gives the ok.

Never pay a hundred Gs for a house, always cut out the middleman, always.
