Black Nasty Growth & Diet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I could never get mine to accept Hikari. The spirulina flakes should be fine. I’ve fed mine fresh scallops, peas, shrimp, fish, etc.
He's such a beauty. His frame is amazing. He's gonna turn into a huge monster in a year or two!!

Can I feed the nasties a mix of hikari pellets and ocean nutrition spirulina with an occasional feeding of market prawns? Please advise.
You are not going to find the stuff these guys suggest as most of it is not available in India. Check what the LFS is feeding them to get an idea what they are used to and you can start with that and then just make your own food.
Its a lot more practical to make larger fish some beefheart or seafood mix (depending on their requirements) as pellets are rarely enough for monster fish.

Although because of your location, making food will probably be a good idea, I would avoid using beef heart, especially with haitiensus.
Research has shown, that beefheart is not digested well by most fresh water fish, so knowing how sensitive haitiensus are to digestive maladies using sea food, and insect products with a large proportion of veggie based material such as the algae used in sushi, would seem to me a best case scenario.

Hi Abhijit! Am from chennai and the cost 1650 INR seems to be fine for a 3 inch Nandopsis hatiensis aka black nasty. I have had 3 male in the past at different times and lost all at one point or another. They grow relatively slow. By the end of one year mine were 7-8 inches. also have a check on their protein intake. Bloating is very a easy and common prob with this breed

Thanks for responding. I've read that they have tremendous bloat issues.

What type of cichlids do you keep?
