Hello Everybody, I’m new to this forum and I’m liking it so far. I’m getting a 125 gallon tank and I’m looking for some predators to put in there. I want something that could stay in there it’s whole life. I’m ok with solitary or group predators. Suggestions? Ideas?

Some ideas:
Upper jaw bichirs (delhezi, palmas, etc) could do a few with some other fish.
Hujeta/rocket gars
Crenicichla (pike cichlids) could do a pair or try a group with limites tankmates
Cichlids: Lots of species that would work, lots of ways to do the setup. Could do a single large predator like a motaguense, with the bichirs. Would be a cool predator tank imo.

I really like that idea. I’ve always loved Bichirs lol.

They are really neat fish. You could easily do 2-4 of the UJ bichirs and a single cichlid or other predator like a datnoid. I have had good success keeping large cichlids with bichirs in the past, and if it's the only cichlid, you could do any species you want, except dovii/umbee.

A 125 would be a great tank for an amphilophus or flowerhorn setup. Wish i had a 125 for each of mine instead of 75s.

Another option is gold wolf fish or one of the other smaller wolves.

Single oscar tank with some tankmates would work, sorta like Jexnell Jexnell 's setup. Is yours a 125 or maybe a bit bigger?

The tank I’m getting would be a 125. I love the idea of a smaller wolf fish, or a couple of bichirs with some sort of cichlid. A flowerhorn or a Jag would be pretty cool.

Just make sure the bichirs are large enough not to get outgrown by the quicker growing cichlids, and made into a meal. Also, I have heard of some cichilds being aggressive to bichirs. But I kept a large ornatipinnis with different CA such as amphilophus and vieja, for years with no problems, In a 6 foot tank as well. Most of the time I believe the two ignore each other.

+1 on the bichir idea. To make life easier try and pick a herbivorous cichlid that way the bichirs have less competition.
