530g Tank Setup and Plumbing Help :)

Questions for the acrylic experts JK47 JK47 and wednesday13 wednesday13 I just got the tank. No damage from delivery but I will say there are some minor things i would like in out. Here are couple pics.

1) Corners have this minor spot where it looks like the panes were not bonded. Should I just use Weldon on these and which type?

2) there are some minor bubbles in the seams. Very few and far between. Do I need to be worried? I don’t think so?

Overall if the above is minor, I am happy with the tank. Service response was great, and we will see what their response to the above pics are. I think have two issues. The first is that they only used styrofoam and black plastic wraps for shipping, no crate. The tank arrived with the styrofoam and wrap damaged and both I and the delivery company were amazed the tank was not damaged. The second is that you can see they were a little sloppy with some of the seams where there is extra Weldon. Normally that wouldn’t be an issue but with my plans of bare bottom, it bothers me. Pics below. For those considering them, this is where price comes into play. This tank (8x4 with 3/4in acrylic everywhere) cost me $3,749 shipped. That’s a great price for a new tank and was about $1,500 to $2,000 cheaper than others.

I see nothing that risks the integrity of the tank or anything that would prevent me from being giddy to own it. The black panel is that was because it’s just there for color. Many are like that. Two at my place as well.

So I don’t need to feel the tiny gaps with Weldon? I had them put a black panel on the back because I felt it would look better than painting. Also had them do black acrylic braces for the hmf filter so it blends with the background and poret foam.

I really can’t say for sure without seeing the tank myself but make sure you water test it before you get started on plumbing and painting floors etc. I’ve had tanks with the edge gap like that before and never had an issue. I’m sure each case varies though.

What is there is tiny so I’m 100% confident the tank won’t leak, I’m more worried about structurally. I spoke to the company and all is good. He said it is common from the epoxy shrinking after use. Said I can add epoxy but would not recommend because it isn’t needed and will probably just make it look worse.

I have true admiration for how much work you put into all your tanks JK47 JK47 I am barely through this one and it’s crazy how much energy it takes.

Thanks bro. Crazy huh? Lot to post too. I don’t post many builds unless I think they’ll help MFKers. Now you see why my threads are so damn long hahah!

JK47 JK47 having a bit of a freak out. Tried paint the bottom of the tank and it’s not going well. I have done two coats and the paint is extremely streaky and now there are bumps of paint where it is very thick. I wanted 3 hours to paint over the first coat which is per directions but I’m guessing I should have given it 24hrs between coats.

Will I have issues with the acrylic due to the unevenness of the paint and the bumps? Suggestions on how to fix this? I was a latex rustoleum paint for this and used a paint brush.

No problems for the acrylic at all. Do t worry there. Get a flash light and look through the other side. If you see pinhole light then you need to use a roller. Brushes are really uneven in application. Easy fix, not to worry. Worst case your out $15-$20 in rollers for another coat or two. Looks good man

For whatever reason the paint said to use only a brush, but I’ll try a roller. I was thinking two more coats. When I paint my glass tank I needed 4 coats to get rid of pin holes.

Oh no your acrylic tank is going to melt! Lol jk just use a roller man. Any roller cheap or expensive. Paint use any! Latex paint tend to peel easily. Worst case senario use krylon fusion
