Many tribes like peacock bass a lot, so probably correct. It wasn't always simple; sometimes we were just served what the locals prepared and never found out what it was. When you are in the middle of the jungle with indigenous folks who have had limited interactions with the outside world (a couple of my guides had never seen an automobile for instance), it's best not to offend them by questioning what they offer.
That said, if I caught a small peacock that was foul hooked or something I would often try to bring that back to get prepared. Pretty sure most of what I ate was peacock.
Finding out what you've been fed can get difficult especially when they respond with what the locals call it (which is often specific to that group of people).
Have you tried manioc yet?
