Hey Folks...I had planned on another Synspilum (had one for 8 years)...but have been intrigued by the Bredohri. I love the Vieja personalities but my Synspilum (from Rapps) was gorgeous. The pictures and videos I see of the Bredohri show a less colorful Vieja but one that I still find it beautiful.

So my question to those that have had Male Bredohri: are the Male non-breedimg colors still a pastel beauty, or do they become more bland? This will be the only Vieja in a 125g (I may add 6-7 Denisoni as dithers)...but no other tank mates. There will be no breeding and no females in the tank.

Any help on coloration would be appreciated.

Jeff Rapps has some right now and my tank is fully cycled....I would like to pull the trigger on a male if I knew the non-breedint colors were still beautiful and pastel.

Male Breidohri are not drab. Mine has a depth of color that is very hard to describe, and hard to photograph. I honestly can't tell you if he's pink or if he's purple. It's a very cool shade of one of those. I guess it's purple, but pink around his head? The fin coloration has red flecks and streaks. Their color deepens as they mature.

In fact, when you see pics of Breidohri that are pinkish purple, that IS their normal color. They lose their pastel colors and go gray when they start breeding. Their breeding coloration is what's drab--like in duanes' pics above.

Thanks for all of the information, folks. That pretty much seals the deal for me. I will be placing an order for a single male Bredohri on Tuesday, the 31st, from Jeff Rapps. (I am also ordering a Sajica from Jeff Rapps for my daughter who is excited to move on from Angelfish and more into CA cichlids).

I look forward to growing out this Bredohri in my main 125g.

Thanks again for the opinions...it is appreciated.

Sajica are very cool, too. They grow slow, but they're really cool.
