Countdown to the end of your fishkeeping days?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Many yrs ago when i was in the navy I had 15 fish in tanks ranging in size from 55 to 200 gallons. I moved cross country with all of them twice. Didn't lose a single fish. ...lot of water changes. The point is tho that moving doesn't mean you have to give up the hobby. Australians love fish too! They have a thriving industry for keepers.

Impressive... dont think i could do that, moved twice before with 2 tanks and that was enough to put me off wanting to move with tanks and livestock... and they were no where near 200G...

Well man, it's a smart move on your part to get out before there is a possibility of a dictator coming to power. Hitler reincarnated, world War 3 anyone?

Its not that hard. Empty everything out of the tank, wrap it in quilts and put it on a Uhaul. As for the fish, put them in big coolers. i fasted them thru the trip. Tested the water every time we stopped and changed it as needed. Usually about 3 changes a day. Worst effect suffered was a veiled Ryukin clean split a bottom lobe of her tail. Healed right up no infection when we got settled into the new place.

Guess in the US its slightly easier with U-haul etc, and unless you in SF there probably arent as many steep hills and bends to deal with either...

Don't forget companies that are used to dealing with moving fish tanks.

We moved from Virginia USA to California USA then back to Virginia 5yrs later. The same fish made both trips. That seems like eons ago now.

Over here most people use grand piano movers, and they are no where near as careful as the US...

Add to that small lifts (elevators) and often a lot of narrow winding stairs to climb, companies will charge a premium to move large tanks... normally charing per floor if there is no other way to move the tank other than up and down stairs with the rates going at averages of USD $50-100+ per floor...

Then consider some apartments in HK go upwards of 50 floors high and that adds up to a hefty sum...

This is why most large indoor tanks or the glass panels in this town have to be moved into place via crane lifted through a window or by removing a window... not exactly easy...

Vincent had a huge glass pane moved to get his 1,000 gallon bow front in.
