I'm about to break it!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lefty loose 10 turns gets it to budge slightly.
Right tighty, I could twist until my dying breath and it won't budge.
Hair dryer eh? I'll try it tomorrow.

You need to get yourself a bigger wrench like the ones that can siled on the handle or basin wrench something you can get on to that thing make sure you have a good grip on it and just go easy with it

Have you considered...waitwait...Oh, good your profile says you're male so I can say this without being sexist...Have you considered getting a man to help you? :p

Ok, enough being a smartass, the hair dryer thing might work, plus getting a good grip on it with pliers

There are a lot of cheaper plastics that if they're already pretty tightly fit they deform enough to get very hard to separate. So, I'd say if you can afford to replace the filter heat it up well with a hair dryer or similar and give it a good torquing with some pliers. If it breaks, buy a new one, you really do need to get it apart some day, so might as well do it now. If it comes loose try putting some vaseline or something on the surfaces that rub together for next time?

If you can't get afford a new one, leave it alone and save up until you can?

Lol, I'm Mr.sandwich, not Ms.sandwich ;).

Meh, the filter is a good one. This is the first time it's done this so I'd rather have it keep going until it gives me a problem that actually worth replacing it. If I do replace it then it'll be an fx5 I reckon.

What if the vaseline ends up leaking into the water?

Doesn't matter, it's not toxic. There's other silicone lubricants made specifically for lubing filter o-rings and stuff. They'll work the same, just might be easier to get.

Reckon I could get it on amazon or in store somewhere?

Vaseline you should be able to get at just about any grocery store, dunno about the filter lube, never seen it at a pet store or anywhere.

Why not leave the hose connected and just pull the head off the filter? That’s how I clean my canisters. I just pull the head, let it sit in a 5 gal bucket and then take the canister part of the filter out for cleaning.

Whenever I can’t get something to unscrew I use a piece of rubber to get a better grip. Thick rubber bands or even a thick rubber glove helps. That can be used in addition to a wrench. I have yet to come across something that can’t be unscrewed that way. And I have very weak hands.
