Hello, I have a Bichir that seems to get abnormally bloated after a feeding. He is not big bodied and the bloating is really noticeable.
I been feeding blood worms, beef heart, and shrimp.
This has been going on for a few weeks ever since I started feeding flake food to my other fish. He got a taste of it and, I’m assuming, got too much air and would make him bloat unintentionally until he would “gas out”
Any ideas of what is wrong and what I can do to correct the problem if it is a problem. He is only about 5”

Hard to tell from the pic. Is he floating tail up toward the top? If so then it’s trapped air. A little Epsom salt 1 tbsp per 5g should help. Reduce ur feedings and see how it progresses.

Also try a staple pellet. It’ll be better in the long term n than feeding whatbur feeding now.

Most seperate and treat bloat with Epsom Salt.

I dont think that is bloating, i think its just notmal after feeding, bloating is basiclly the fish turn to like a balloon type were the belly is rounded.

Try to add some epsom salt, 1 tblsp per 5g, also slow down on feeding, blood worm and beef heart is really not good for poly since blood worm dont have much nutrition and beef heart contains to much fat.

You might try a good pellet mixed in with frozen tilapia (from people grocery store, cut up and thawed) or frozen Silversides (from a fish store) and your shrimp. Would be a better mix of food for the poly. Also, most keepers here feed every other day, so it might be nice to skip a day here and there with your fish if you're not already. Some polys (especially captive bred) are natural overeaters and it can be a concern.

Doesn't look like bloat just.over feeding. As stated cut back on feedings and treat with Epsom salt it won't cause any harm either way
