I have a 20 long with 2 axolotls and was wondering if pothos would be beneficial to the tank, I hear a lot of good stuff about them but I am unsure because I want to remove ammonia and nitrite as well as nitrate. Would pothos help with that?

Pothos consumes nitrates directly. If you want to get rid of ammonia and nitrite, you should have a cycled biological media containing bacteria that will consume ammonia and nitrite.

Submerged aquatic plants will consume ammonium first, which is what ammonia is turned into when you add a water conditioner like Prime. When there is no ammonium, submerged aquatic plants will then take in nitrates.

Yes again same. Filter with mechanical and biogical filtration is a must. Pothos or water lettuce will help with nitrates but water changes is going to be best for that. The amount of nitrate pulled out with plants is in question. I use pothos and I think it helps to a point but its limited by alot. If you can get faster growing terrestrial plants that can be grown aquaponically without adding a bunch of fertilizers then that would be key. Papyrus is supposed to be really good but I've not tried it yet.
