Lucky we have American Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I see tanks like this all the time. The live sections in seafood stores or even in some restaurants where you pick your fish and they cook it on the spot. Fish are healthy, colorful, no fighting, and don't look stressed.

If you goal is to keep as many colorful moving objects as possible in a fish tank, congratulations.

If you goal is to observe and understand as much as possible about a species, you are on the wrong path.

Not here to argue or change anybody's mind. It won't happen. Best to find and hang out with like-minded people.

OK fair enough.

Your just as guilty as I in the derail of this thread. This is just your way of not answering the question, as there are no misconceptions.

Op I apologise for my part in the derail of this thread.
No. You took it upon yourself to quote me to do nothing but disagree. If i wanted to derail this to point out your inexperience and how incorrect you are, and now to point out your immaturity by trying to place blame on me, I would have.

Go for it.

You've still not answered the question though.

Why are people picking fights with Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 ?

He’s one of the few people left on here who are trying to move the hobby forward. If he leaves because he gets tired of this BS, another solid contributor will be gone and this forum will only be good for the classifieds section.

So many knowledable and helpful people have already left over this type of nonsense. Frankly, I’m getting sick of it myself. Most of my hobby connections now take place through FB, IG, and Messenger. It shouldn’t be that way. We used to come on here to learn from one another and share in our experiences raising these fish.

fishbum fishbum , I don’t know you nor am I trying to judge but you are playing an active role in the deterioration of this forum. Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 is someone whom I respect for his countless and tireless contributions to the threads where people ask him questions and seek his knowledge. Leave him alone. Go troll somewhere else.

I agree with you fishbum fishbum , and eveyone has there own way of fishkeeping, and if it works, it works, but @mrobxc is right, stanz is one of the most knowledgeable and helpful people on MFK. This is an argument that neither of you can win; why continue?

I am certainly not trying to win arguments here, there is no argument.
The way we stock our fish tanks is a matter of personal taste.
Early on in this thread several people posted comments as to tank size and if this stocking works. I just politely elaborated my view on this subject.

The law of averages tells us most tanks stocked this way won't work without trial and error, fish getting stressed and bullied and lots of catching and swapping of fish along the way. This is a fact not a theory.

The other point that was brought up was saying keeping c/a and or s/a cichlids overstocked is the same as keeping rift lake species overstocked. As I explained earlier in this thread it's not the same at all.
Rift species have a completely different evolutionary path and their territorial needs differ to those of new world cichlids.
Although I feel a little bad for Avib for the way this thread has gone. I did not join in this discussion to flame the guys tank. I even commented that he had some very nice fish.
I do feel it was unnecessary to be called self righteous just because my idea of long term cichlid housing differs from his.
Fishbum I would quit now if I were you.
Unless you can point out the misconceptions made in this thread.

I was merely saying CA cichlid behavior is not as predictable as say African or SA. Many people on here have had a fish snap. Things peaceful one moment then come home from work to find a tank of dead fish. Yet the OP jumped down my throat about that lol. It wasn’t an attack and even said the fish looked good.
