filtration system for rack set up

Hello,

I currently have a 425L tropheus tank and an unused 260L tank I plan to set up and use.

I also am planing on getting 3 or 4 small tanks which are around 30L to use as planted tanks / shrimp tanks and for breeding.

I've never kept a racking system before and in the past for my larger tanks i've always used canister filters.

For the smaller tanks i'd usually just use an internal filter or air pump.

However in this case I was wondering id I could use one system to filter all the tanks, without drilling them, In order to cut running costs etc.

Any ideas welcome

You could use sponges in the tanks and get a pond pump to run them all if you don’t want to drill them, but I wouldn’t try and cut corners on a racking system. Without drilling them you are going to run zthe risk of flooding out your house.

Is there no way to do it with pipingbrsther than drilling holes? I’m not 100% sure on what I’m doing ☺️

The 450 is 5ft and 260 4ft.

I once had an idea, which never came to fruition, of splitting the intake and output of my fx6 into two lines, then running one of each into my two 75s. You would need a bunch of valves for tuning the flow, but i think it work in theory.

But then again, im not sure this would be flood proof. Would the top tank just siphon down to the bottom in a power failure? Maybe you would have to make sure the can is below both tanks.
 
Best way is to drill. Just run sponge filters with an air pump if you cant drill them. When I had mbuna I had 4 10g tanks with sponge filters run off 1 air pump for the fry worked out great. There are hang on overflows you can buy or build but its a good flood risk.

If you put the tanks on the same level, there is minimal flood risk, and no drilling. I had 3x10g like this once. Goldfish, mollies, and others on one 3w air pump. All plumbing made from discarded medical equipment (sorry I have no pics.) No problems. If you rig it right, you can use a hob, canister , airkift, or sump, it doesn't matter. I was us
ing a diy airlift from pvc, and a long flowerpot thing for the overhead bit, but I drew it like this for simplicity. The trick is to secure the hoses well and to make sure they go well below the waterline.
