Still not sure what to put in my 300 gallon

I agree w/ Dan and GS. Perfect if you want a colorful and peaceful CA tank.

Ya seems like it would be really nice!
For all males, something like: Nicaraguense, Jack Dempsey, pearsei, caprintis, loisellei, plus a couple smaller types like panamensis, HRP. For the small guys you could do all males as well, or could do harems like 1 male 3 females, should be okay. Going all-male (or all-female) is the less risky route for an aggressive community, pairs are pretty much guaranteed to mess up the balance. If you want pairs, something like Dan suggested (one large pair, group of smaller fish) would be better.
Ya dans idea is very nice and I do like the sound of it but your idea is great too and I also love it, now to choose, could I get away with some of the larger species of parachromis if they are all female and then some smaller pairs of convict type cichlids like salvini and other kinds like it?

Do a lone black wolf fish, black umbee, fahaka puffer, Cuban gar, kelberi bass, or red tail giant gourami with a shoal of spanner barbs and a nice pleco.

All male amphilophus tank could work, sbgbuddy sbgbuddy has a fantastic setup.

Adding females introduces the possibility of pairs, and one pair of parachromis would probably take over the tank. The larger species of parachromis I assume your talking about Jaguars and Dovii, neither of them are particularly good community fish. Maybe a jag could work, dovii definitely not IMO. Salvini get pretty large, are super mean, and are not convict types. I wouldn't do a pair of salvini, they could easily claim half your tank. The only fish I think you could probably do groups of would be fish like sajica, cutteri. Not as large and mean as salvini.

If I had that tank I think I would do a pair of veija and a large group of thorichthys maybe add a pair of spillerus.
I do think it would make a great amazon tank though and you would have a lot of choice of non cichlid tank mates.
A group of uaru or chocalote cichlids with a group of geophagus dicozoster would be a nice mix.
For surface action a group of say 8 pink tailed chalceus would look very impressive. You could also add a nice shoal of pimlodid catfish like pictus or blochii.
The choices are endless and less restrictive with s/a fish imo.

For SA, I wouldn’t mix GT’s with geos. Gt’s Would be too much for them.

That size tank for SA, geez the options are unlimited. Do you want larger predatory cichlids or a peaceful community? Here’s some good combos.

- A medium sized Crenicichla species.
- A group of 8 medium sized Geophagus. Species depend on your preferred color and max size.
- A bonded pair or trio of a severums species.
- a trio of festivums or wild angels
- a school of medium sized deeper bodied tetras like brachychalcinius, or triportheus.

If you want something larger to fill the tank
- Cichla Kelberi
-Astronotus Crassipinnis

I can go on and on.
