Still not sure what to put in my 300 gallon

You could do a killer S.A. setup. First off pick the center piece, like an Oscar, GT, Uaru. Then like two different Sevrums. Then a 6pac of mid size Geos. A nice pac of Pictus cats. Then lastly a group of SDs.
Just make sure the cichlids are all male.

Would a tank work with one big boss male like a jag or red tiger mota or red terror and have a bunch of females throughout the tank? Also if I were to go the quite risky route with a all male tank what kinds of species of males could I house together and how many? Scientific and common names please

I agree - my male started going nuts at 10” - at feeding time scales were guaranteed to come off other Fish. I’d also recommend central or south and not a mix. If you want big and small fish, I’d probably go south. I’ve had decent luck with male Amphs and female Parachromis in the same tank

That sounds like quite a cool setup some of the bigger South American males with some Central American females. What kind of male South Americans could I put with, let’s say some female red tiger mota’s and red terrors along with some other female CA cichlids?

You could attempt something like you are saying, just know that there is going to be a lot of conflict. I would only do it if you have another tank like a divided 125 to put the rejects or troublemakers. I would stick with species that max around 12" and get only males. Maybe 6 of them and a few male convict types.

That's if you are dead set on trying that. I've had similar types of tanks with a bunch of aggressive fish, and you can make it work if you shuffle things around and stay on your toes, but it's a lot trouble. I think Dan's idea would be less of a p.i.t.a and be really fun to watch.

What are your recommendations on the types species of males I could put in there, I definitely would get a large tank just in case something were to happen.

That does sound quite nice!
The Oscar/green terror/ uaru wouldn’t pick on the geos?

They shouldn't, pic a geo around the 6 to 8in adult size range, so not seen as a threat.
My Oscar didn't really bother other cichlids, save the initial this is my tank but your cool so you can stay taste test bite. Other Oscar's was a different story.

But if you got them all as little 1 to 2in fry, and let them grow up together, I don't see any issues, as these fish could all see each other in the wild.

For all males, something like: Nicaraguense, Jack Dempsey, pearsei, caprintis, loisellei, plus a couple smaller types like panamensis, HRP. For the small guys you could do all males as well, or could do harems like 1 male 3 females, should be okay. Going all-male (or all-female) is the less risky route for an aggressive community, pairs are pretty much guaranteed to mess up the balance. If you want pairs, something like Dan suggested (one large pair, group of smaller fish) would be better.
