deciding on water: city water vs. well water

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
having ammonia in the water is a concern. Either way sounds like bad news. I am not sure if the well has been drilled recently. It is used weekly for the sprinkler system. Will try to find out more information.

With your luck....stick to the county water lol

I just setup my 54 gallon corner tank and I used our well water. I did add the quick start up. 24hrs later I brought a sample to my local aquarium store and got it tested. All of the levels are perfect! So far so good. I don't use a water softer with our water system either.

Hello; Well water can be tested. At some level there will be a place where you can get the well tested. Might be thru a state or federal agency or a private company but it can be tested to see if it is safe for consumption and/or safe for bathing. If found safe for consumption then I would use it for fish. Check with the county ag agency as that may be a place to get information.
My take is we pretty much all consume less than perfect water. I do not see how as much junk as we all put into the environment can help but to affect the water.

I had it tested before we bought the house and everything was perfect. I believe that's a law to get done before purchasing a house. (At least with the VA Home Loans)
