Almost everything in this hobby could be considered cruel, depending on how & who is viewing it. My point was that millions of fish die every year, for one reason or another, due to our selfish wants/needs to keep fish in a glass box.

Collecting fish in the wild, and keeping them in a glass box is no more cruel than keeping domestic raised fish in poor conditions. I suspect that millions of LFS specimens are killed each year within the first 30 days, while someone is using live fish to cycle their new pet store purchased aquarium. It's a slow and I would imagine agonizing death for a fish. At least the bleach killed the fish in the video rather quickly. Commercial fishing kills millions of fish each year, as does pollution and habitat destruction. Species are being wiped out before man has had a chance to "discover" them, in places such as Borneo, Africa, and South America. Collecting wild fish might be the only way that some species are preserved for the next generation of hobbyists. In fact many people that are working the hardest in the preservation end of things, are the same people that have been collecting them over the years. One example would be the work that Ad Konings et al have been doing in the Rift Lakes with African Cichlids.

At the top of each page one can click on their user ID, which takes you to your profile page. 2. Click on the link "People You Ignore", and add the user ID that you would like to ignore.

That, or maybe hit the back button when you find a discussion that doesn't suit your lifestyle, or meet your personal standards, or causes you such angst that you feel the need to make things personal.

And I agree, what this lady did was cruel, but at the same time millions of other fish die in this hobby each year, many of them collected from the wild, for no other reason than our personal entertainment.
Ive already ignored this person, thank you.
I agree with your "back button" idea in most things: politics, religion, all those differences of opinion that we see on Facebook that people rail against. These are those back out scenarios that are best to move on in.
But, sexism and violence against women- no.That doesn't quite fit in the category you are attempting to put it in: "lifestyle choices or personal standards."--- only a man could say this with a straight face.
I understand why men have a desire to trivialize such conversations, to break them down to harmless jokes. Mock women who say anything as "too sensitive," tell them to move on and use the "back button". ---( Sure if we only could, wouldn't that be nice.)

As a daughter, mother, sister, wife, I have lived in the culture-- if you dont like it, back up, turn away, hit ignore when men have their sexist conversations, degrade and mock women, drop their innuendos of violence.
Men can say and do, women must be silent and put up.
Thanks for the reminder.

I think I have to disagree with you on that, yes many men can be sexist and treat women poorly but many women are sexist too. There are countless videos of women saying that men should be below women or that men shouldn’t exist. I do not agree with sexism but both genders do it and you can’t just blame it on men

And what "culture" is that?
The fifties?
You act as if women don't do the same thing,
So called "feminist" drop lines like: men are worthless, men get payed more (they don't really, pay difference between men and women is currently less than 1%), masculinity is toxic, bla bla bla.

I do wish you'd be more specific, what exactly do you find sexist? Give us more specific examples, you can't fix a problem if you don't identify one.

This is a public, online forum, that is ahead of most when it comes to banning members that are in need of it. But the mods/admin here aren't police, and all have real lives, with other real live people. If you truly have an issue with anyone's comments you have several choices, some it sounds like you have apparently taken. (report a post, ignore feature) If you don't like the results, or can't live with the TOS here, no one is holding a gun to anyone's head.

Speak up all you like, but I don't see you as a damsel in distress, or Stanzz as a knight in shining armour. Personally I see both of you as feeding a troll. Do either of you feel that you have resolved anything by continuously responding, and making things more personal than you felt they already were? My comments were not intended to trivialize anything, or anyone. Just some simple suggestions which obviously can be taken, or dismissed as coming from someone who isn't worthy of their opinion. Thanks for the lumping me along with the rest in your final comment. Unreal …..

Is that right? Both men and women equally are sexist, batter their partners, rape?
You can say this is true, believe its true, all the men who are reading this can agree emphatically and continue to feel justified--- doesn't change the facts.

The mods might as well step in and stick a fork in this one since it's gotten so far from the subject....a post was made, someone got offended and spoke out against it and the point was made more than once yet here we are days later and still beating the rug.....#move on.

You decided to get into this conversation, too say your opinion. I responded. Yes, if people state their opinions I will respond if I disagree.

I contacted mods- no options other then ignore and I have done this. I was told they were working on a means of blocking others from following-- this is good.

If you truly believe that then go for it but I have to disagree

Now that all you guys are complaining about how this post is "no longer fun" and the girl " took offense" when the guys were just having fun ( like they do) do you think the mods, who are so busy with their lives, will take notice and put a "fork in this"?
maybe.
