Reptile Keepers Have It Made

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would love to have a sulcatta or some other large growing tortoise.Maybe after I relocate frim the northeast so I can keep it in an outdoor pen.
We take her out for day trips in the backyard a couple days a week in the summer but no pen other then the backyard fence. Dogs keep an eye on her. I think they think she's a weird deformed dog. It would be nice to be somewhere warm enough to have a pen outside for most of the year. Cut down on electric bills.

I was planning on doing a 3d background for the tank, but decided against it now. Mainly because the backgrounds/silicone takes a little while to off-gas. With Christmas only about 3 weeks away I wanted to make sure I got the Gecko a few weeks ahead of time so I could make sure it was healthy and doing well before giving it to her. So didn't want to chance putting the little guy in and risking it's health, and didn't want to chance waiting too long and missing out on getting one in time. So just took a spare 29g I had layin' around and painted the back dark brown and the floor light tank. Gonna pick up some branches and fake plants and such for it today and make him a nice little simple home for the time being. Then later on if she wants a nicer setup I'll do her a background for it.
You are the coolest uncle ever. Can you be my uncle Steve

I'm tired of the cold winters, among other things.
Is that in nj? My wife and I are talking about a place called Chatham where her sister lives. Really close to us border, near Detroit. But def want to get a big tortoise as the family pet that (hopefully)won’t die and break every ones heart, the grandkids will have to deal with that lol.

LOL thanks. I have always got her cool animals for Christmas. She is the biggest animal/pet lover you will ever meet. So far over the years I have got her two Guinea pigs, a Hedge hog, a ERS turtle, and a number of koi as Christmas gifts, and now the Gecko. Their house is quite the zoo.

Her mom is just as animal crazy as my Niece is, or close to it. In addition to the ones I bought her they also have a giant dog (newfoundland) and a little dog (Pomeranian) a couple of birds and a bunch of other koi and comet they have bought themselves. Needless to say their house is loud, I can only take it for an hour or so at a time before I have to leave for some peace & quiet.....my fish and cat here don't make much noise :)

Sounds kinda like here we are the crazy animal people in our family. Currently 4 dogs a cat ,tortoise , cornsnakes, 4 fish tanks. Thats alot less then we used to have. We have always had at least 2 dogs and a cat but the reptile and amphibian count was way through the roof along with a pet rat and huge salt water system. Its good to have cut back some lol. I keep thinking I want to try leaf geckos and some of the cooler mantids and I want a betta tank. But then I think naw I barely have enough time to enjoy what ive got now. 1 dog is only 10 months old and is still a handful fun but running this old man out.
