Fed up with buying live plants on Ebay

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I only buy my plants from my lfs. I get to see if they have been converted from emerged grown to submurged gown. A lot of the time when you first get plants they are grown out of the water, and when you put them in your tank they melt. If a plant looks like it’s not healthy I don’t buy it. It also helps that my lfs does have a good selection to choose from.

I've bought from my aquarium club members before but no one has brought much in the way of plants lately. The one lady who was really good for that moved away.

Local wild plants have already died off for the year. Won't be much worth collecting until mid-late spring.

Thank you, everyone for the suggestions. I'm looking into each of them.
Great time to collect BULBS

My last two buys (Anubias varieties) from ebay have been great (very healthy and cheap).

We haven't had a good lfs here since Animal Jungle closed down after 40yrs in biz. Man, I miss that store! They had everything.

It sucks when a good long time local fish shop closes doesn't it :( For years and years I had a shop not even a mile from my house called "The aquarium shop" that was in Business like the store near you was, probably 30+ years. They had a good variety and the prices were just beyond fair. Got a male 12" Venustus from them for $24.99, I'll never forget that one lol. That's how most their fish were though, great size great color and great prices. They closed down about 3 years ago. Was a sad day for fish keepers around here.

Mine have very little selection. You're limited mostly to swords, anubias, a few crypts, and marimo moss balls. We haven't had a good lfs here since Animal Jungle closed down after 40yrs in biz. Man, I miss that store! They had everything.

The Owner Bob re-opened a new store in Virginia Beach called Tropical Fish by Jungle Aquatics. They have a huge selection of both fish and plants, if your still in the area you should check them out!

Another great option for buying great plants is the buy/sell forum on plantedtank.net though you do have to be a member. Hobbyists are a good resource for plants as well as fish.
