Regarding your fire mouth with the mouth problem. Thorichthys have quite weak mouths that are easily dislocated by other cichlids. Have you noticed any jaw locking at all?
They are also prone, due to their feeding habits, of getting gravel lodged in their mouths. If you have no gravel and the fish is feeding then this should not be the issue.
If the jaw is dislocated it can be eased back in to position by hand. This is a delicate procedure and can damage the jaw further. I would keep an eye on it and see how he gets on. I would only attempt to manipulate the jaw if it stops feeding as a last resort.

I haven’t seen any lip locking or anything like that, he is still feeding and there is no gravel. Will see how he does in the next few days

I’ve been very busy so haven’t been able to do much maintenance on the tank and the water is a bit cloudy but got a couple FTS, the tanks is not looking great right now, I need some more egeria densa on the left and some more swords, they’re not doing well right now and the rainbow pair have chewed most of the leaves off but will be getting some fertiliser so hopefully they should start to grow. I also need to add some more branches but haven’t been able to get any yet.

It looks like you have made a good start, I think it will be stunning when the plants get going and the branches are added.

Thanks, I just noticed how the water looks yellow on camera but nevermind. Hopefully the plants will take off and it will start to look good

I’m thinking of some tank mates to add but don’t really know what to get, thought about archocentrus siquia pair or cryptoheros panamensis pair but don’t know how the JD will take to it, so far he’s been quite mild and a bit timid but could gain aggression as he grows. I wanted to add something different or uncommon as right now I feel like my tank has very common fish but they are very interesting and get better each day. What fish would you recommend. I do like cribroheros as well but don’t know how they would do with the firemouths. Would a pair of fish work in that tank.
