As its been said catfish make noises by clicking bones in the base of the pectoral fins
(anyone correct me if this is not the case). Although in water it probably sounds more akin to an angry vibrating phone in my experience. Out of water its more of a clicking or croaking depending on species. I believe the noise is used to communicate or its just them locking their fins in place, either way if I recall correctly its a threat display of sorts.
