Fake Vendors and Nonsense in the Market....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm just hoping Vendors are seeing this as well. There are a lot of Vendors that are doing strictly business on here and don't engage on the forum which makes it really hard to communicate with them.
You could send out an alert to all the vendors with a link to this thread.

Isnt there an approved vendor list here somewhere? I have never bought fish from this site ( and most likely never will) but thought I had seen a list somewhere along the line of approved vendors.

There is and being worked on.

I already did lol. I hope the vendors see it, but even with the mass blast notification, only 342 unique registered members have viewed this thread. Out of over 131,000 registered members, I don't find that promising.

There used to be. It was never public, however. Recompiling the list is one of the MAJOR behind the scenes activities the Staff has been struggling with.

are you the only mod here now? what happened to the other guys like oddball and other mods?

JK47 JK47 and I were the only two active staff left, so we brought in a few new folks to help keep eyes on everything .the forum is too big for just two guys.

We don't discuss Staff member's personal business in the open forum. Li and I are still in regular contact with most of the "lost" staff. Suffice to say that the real world is getting in the way of MFK for them. In the same way that I disappeared for a while and came back when I got my affairs in order, so too will they. :)

Wow that was a long read... took a while to get through all the pages...

There was basically way too much covered in this thread with lots of good points brought up on both sides for things such as the Like / Dislike button idea...

The marketplace can be a crazy place at times but is now getting taken care of really well now by certain unsung heroes...

Overall though, the community feel seems to be getting stronger again and people are becoming a lot more informative and careful with their responses compared to before... so hopefully we continue to grow together as a community and help this hobby advance in the right direction for both new and old members alike...

Hey Steve, I couldn't disagree more. A *Do Not Like* button could be a very effective tool, when dealing with certain individuals who for whatever reason don't know when to sit on their hands. WSC, is a perfect example. That kid talked out of his arse on an hourly basis here, and his nonsense went on ad nauseum, for months. Not blaming anyone, God knows that Rob went way out of his way to reign this kid in, but in the meantime numerous NEW members were taking advice from a kid who got 99% of his answers off of a quick google search. The Do Not Like button would incorporate a checks and balance, for what I consider a very imperfect Like function.

If one likes it they click a button, if they don't like the vast majority will simply hit the back button to avoid a confrontation. That leaves a hand full of people like me that don't mind telling someone to sit down & shut up. And of course then I end up being the bad guy because I didn't use the gentle snowflake approach, to someone that in reality more times than not needed a good yank on their chain.

Remove the Like button, and no need for a Do Not Like button, which I think we already both agree would be a far better solution.

To each their own, but IME ignoring people when they are talking out of their arse doesn't help a forum grow - at least not in a direction that I want to be part of. I understand that there's a report button, but I personally think it is far more effective for a community to police themselves, than constantly run to a mod to settle an issue. An issue that the mod may also have zero experience in. There is a place and time for both, but stupid talk should be stamped out by each & every member that reads it. Members like WSC wouldn't survive that type of environment, and the members asking questions, or receiving "expert" advice from a person like that should soon clue in if more experienced members spoke up.

I know that not everyone appreciates my no nonsense approach, but at the end of the day I think that it's safe to say that no one is sitting there wondering "why does this person not like what I said". :shark:
The way I would design it would be like this. Set a number of dislikes that would cause an automatic deletion of a post. Say -10 results in a post deleted. Every time it’s liked it’s +1, disliked -1. If it hits -10 post becomes deleted automatically.

A bit like The Gong Show. Or, maybe I am the only one old enough to remember this :/
