I have an empty 180 gallon tank that I'd like to hopefully get set up soon, and originally I was planning on getting one Jardini Arowana, but I have been thinking about doing peacock bass instead. What species of Peacock Bass would work, and how many could I keep in a 180?

Standard 180 dimensions? I would say 3 Kelberi no decor and a few dithers

Agreed. Just note that water quality will be hard to maintain in a 180 with three grown kels. Best to cull down to a bonded pair. Run a sump for more water volume.

This is true I run my 180 with a 75 gallon sump with bacteria house media marine pure block some standard ceramic media and a K1 reactor jebao dcp 5000 lph return pump and a ultima 2000 filter with a reeflo gold hybrid pump. Nitrates are my enemy water changes galore!

Damn. You run an ultima 2000 on a 180? Awesome! I use one with the same pump for my 600 and it does an amazing job. I can only imagine what it could do for a 180. Flow must be amazing!

Lol I’m ridiculous with filtration :headbang2I have four bd rays 6-7” and 3 bass between 10-12” in the 180 but it’s bare and tons of turnover.

Makes sense since you have rays. Also now understand why you plan to thin down some Cichla for rays. I imagine you’ll be putting them into your big tanks?

That’s the plan, to be honest I’m concerned about getting food to the rays these bass can be busting at the seams and still eat.... straight fatties.

I throw in floating pellets by the handful and when the bass have their mouths full, I throw in massivore to the bottom feeders. It’s worked well so far.
